The small mid-western town was celebrating the arrival of the new Lutheran pastor. The church was having the traditional "covered dish" meal after the service. Several prominent church members brought the new pastor small gifts to welcome him to the area.
The local baker provided the pastor with a dozen of his famous apple turnovers. The pastor opened the box and said, "Wonderful baked goods for the pastor!"
The local florist presented the new pastor with a beautiful floral arrangement. The pastor said, "Flowers for the pastor!"
The son of the local tavern owner approached the new pastor with a box that had fluid dripping from the bottom. The pastor ran his finger along the bottom of the box and tasted the liquid. He looked at the small boy and said, "Beer for the pastor?" The little boy shook his head with a negative response. The pastor tasted the liquid again. "Some wine for the pastor?" The boy broke into a large smile and said, "It's a new puppy!"
