Music, Music, Music

I've been trying to be more vigilant about giving piano lessons with my children. It seems that music lessons are one of the first things that get dropped when we get super busy. Alison is making slow steady progress. Paige is flying ahead. She began lessons in October and is already playing chords. She has wanted lessons for a long time, but I failed to follow through on her request.

Joe has also been practicing the piano quite a bit. He's been working on several new pieces and it's been a joy to hear him. When Joe was younger, he learned to play the pan flute in a homeschool music class. He's asked for a pan flute for his birthday (Dec. 27), but we'll have to see if I can find one. Joe is also singing int he choir at school. Last year, he sang with me in the church choir, but isn't this year. I think he enjoys the social aspect of singing with his peers.

Steve has been working hard on both the piano and guitar. Almost everyday, he works on some new song. I'm not able to help him with the guitar and he hasn't had private lessons. It's amazing to hear him play, because he is displaying a lot of skill. Steve is also singing in the high school choir. Usually, students need to spend one year singing in the high school before they can audition for the highest choir. Yesterday, Steve came home from school and announced that he has been asked to sing in the highest choir! I'm so happy that he is finally finding his niche at the high school.

All of these people practicing makes a lot of music in our home. Mike was home yesterday and mentioned that the piano never rests. He gets tired of hearing it all day long, but I love it!
