Changes

My husband works for a furniture chain in our state that is very large. He has worked for them for 10 years in August. For the last nine years, he has been in management working his way up the corporate ladder. Each job promotion has taken him further and further from our home. He averages a promotion/new location every 18 months so moving isn't an option. The economy in our state has been really slow for the last 5 years, with no end in sight. Two weeks ago we had a discussion about finances and determined that we could no longer afford for him to drive so far to work each day. He put 189,000 miles on his car in the last 3 years.

We decided that he should quit management and go back into sales at a large store 25 miles from our home. It was tough to close the door on his management career with this company. He was next in line for a substantial promotion, but we just couldn't continue spending so much of his income on gasoline.

My husband began his new position on Monday and really enjoys working in sales again. He's even earning more money. The management at the new location were thrilled to get him, but asked him to not tell people that he will be making more money in sales than he was in management. They need to recruit more management. The final positive change is that he only needs to work 41 hours a week instead of the 55 hours he was working before. Why did we wait so long?

So glad this is working out! My sister was a regional manager for DSW, after about a year or more, she asked to step back down to managing a store. For many of the same reasons, the driving, the stress, etc. She is so much happier now.

The change was really a leap of faith. The job pay is commission with a nominal (will pay for him to drive to work) daily fee. Your prayer would be appreciated. Karen
