Labor Day Ouch!

Labor Day is low-key at out house. The children were allowed to sleep in the tent in the backyard Sunday night. After sleeping in, we planned on a normal school day followed with an evening bonfire. The children woke up around 10:30 and ate breakfast. My 11 year old son asked if he could have a slice of watermelon. He took a sharp kitchen knife and began to cut himself a slice of watermelon. The knife slipped and he received a deep cut across the palm of his hand.

Several hours later, we returned home from the emergency room. My son had cut the muscular part of the palm under his thumb. He needs to wear a hand brace for the next week to keep from tearing out the stitches. He won't be able to swim or take showers this week. The poor boy will also have to miss doing dishes this week. There is never a loss without some gain. ;)

That doesn't sound very fun! But, I notice he is managing a smile for the camera.
