Politics

I'm usually quite interested in the political scene. However lately, I've struggled and failed to keep abreast of the upcoming elections. I just get frustrated and angry. Barack Obama is far ahead of McCain in the Michigan polls. As I drive around town there are 4 times as many Obama signs as McCain signs. Michigan is very much a union-worker state. The democrats usually win more elections than they lose. But, how on earth can Michigan voters continue to support our governor, Jennifer Granholm, who has driven our economy into the ground?

In the last gubernatorial election, the republicans had a candidate who was a very successful businessman. He had personally created many jobs in our state and knew how to attract businesses to our state, where hundred of thousands of jobs have been lost under Granholm. She was re-elected by people who thought that she would look out for the "little guys." She raised our taxes again and again. She drove businesses out of the state with high corporate taxes. Our unemployment statistics have continued to be the highest in the US. Our state population is declining, as laid-off workers leave the state searching for employment.

Now this same group of voters are thrilled with Obama. He's going to turn the economy around. How is he going to accomplish this feat? By raising taxes on people and businesses. When businesses pay more taxes, they do not pay as many dividends to stock holders. They do not hire more workers. They do not invest in their businesses. They look at other countries or states that will allow them to earn more profit. I just don't understand the logic behind the majority of Michigan voters. Are they unable to see the correlation?

Well, there's always living in Ohio, where your vote doesn't count unless you vote 10 or 20 times.

Hi Barb! Thanks for the reminder! It's always good to get another perspective.
