Catching Up Around the House

We had beautiful weather today; light breezes, balmy (for Michigan) 65 degrees temperatures, lots of sunshine. Most of our brood spent the day outside tackling jobs in the yard and playing. I managed to hang 5 loads of laundry on the clothesline. The smell of freshly washed clothing that has dried in the sunshine is one of the best smells in the world.

Last week, I picked up 5 packages of summer bulbs from the local dollar store. I planted three groupings of Gladiolus, 1 grouping of pink lilies, and 1 grouping of a small deep purple flower whose name I've forgotten. I'm no expecting all of the bulbs to bloom, but am hopeful that I'll get some new flowers.

Our yard needs a lot of work this summer. My plantings and shrubs in the front yard are in sad shape. My neighbor's child broke many of the lower branches on a 13' evergreen, which will need to be dug out and replaced. There is a hole in the side of the tree and another large hole in the front. The same child tore out several perennial plants and hostas. I may dig up all the plant beds and plant grass instead. The destruction of my landscaping causes me a lot of distress and I'd rather make due with grass and use hanging baskets for color this summer.

My daffodils and hyacinths are in full bloom. I love the bright colors contrasting the dull grass. Hopefully, the kids and I will get the shed cleaned out tomorrow and will be able to spend Saturday working on the plant beds!

We don't have a yard, so no plants. Not sure if this is good or not.
