My mom had surgery on Tuesday to implant a port into her shoulder. The surgery went well and she was able to spend the evening alone. Mom felt almost normal in the evening and decided to do several loads of laundry. On Wednesday, she was in a lot of pain in her shoulder, back, and arm. She's been taking pain medication and taking it easy.
Yesterday, I took Mom to go purchase a wig. The wig stores are in the large town about 1 hour from my house. We went to the first store and Mom tried on several different styles. There was only one wig that she didn't hate. Mom wanted to see a larger selection, so we went in search of the other wig store. The wig store was located downtown near a tea party demonstration. We were able to see many of the signs and some of the people marching to the demonstration site. After driving around in loops, we finally located the store. (I'll refrain from commenting on the stupidity of making every road a one-way street and the joys of too many construction zones.) The store was a high-end boutique, complete with espresso bar. The receptionist stated that they showed wigs on an appointment basis-only, but she would try to fit my mom in between appointments. Mom decided that this location would be out of her budget, so we left and returned to the first store, where Mom bought a wig similar to her normal hairstyle.
Chemo begins next Monday for three days. Mom will be staying with one of my sisters for a few days after treatment. We're not sure how Mom will be feeling after treatment and it will be better if she isn't alone until she feels capable of taking care of herself.
I've still got to take my mom to purchase hats and scarves, which will probably end up happening this week. I had really wanted to go to the Mom-Daughter-Palooza, which is a get-together for homeschool mom's and daughters. Maybe next time.
