My nephew was confirmed yesterday. I'm always awed by the beauty of their church's sanctuary. The congregation recently celebrated 150 years and the newer school buildings reflect the time period when the church was first built. There are 4 huge stained glass windows, and 8 smaller stained glass windows.
During the confirmation service, the pastor read selected portions from papers that the confirmands had written about their faith. At some congregations, the confirmands read papers about their faith in front of the congregation and I have a hard time understanding what is being read. I appreciated that the pastor didn't state which child had written which excerpt and that each child wrote about a different topic, Justification, Sanctification, Redemption, etc. While the confirmands were taking their vows the pastor asked the congregation to reaffirm their vows.
I've been to Confirmation services at various congregations. Sometimes, the confirmation class has public examination during the Confirmation service. At other locations, children have read papers about their faith. At one location, the pastor did a power point presentation. YUCK! My brother's church had a reverent service in a beautiful sanctuary. How blessed my family was to participate in our nephew's confirmation.

My Equestrienne is getting confirmed this year. She will not be writing a paper or anything.
When I was confirmed we picked a verse and did a craft project related to the verse.
When I was confirmed, the Sunday before confirmation, I (class of 1) was examined before the congregation. On confirmation day, I said vows. Getting through the examination was very nerve-racking. My oldest daughter's examination was on a week night with only parents in attendance.
Barb,
Congratulations to the Equestrienne!
