Katie has been searching for a job since last November. She hasn't had any luck until this week. On Tuesday, she interviewed for an internship, lasting three months, working with computers. Being 16 years old, she had nothing to wear that could be classified as "professional". We went shopping, but had a terrible time finding clothes in her size that were office-wear. We finally located a skirt/jacket combination. Katie wears either 1's or 3's and the smallest size we found was an 8. The skirt could be fixed by adding elastic and the jacket had a belt, which hid the extra width.
Katie's interview went well and she should hear back from them in mid-August. Later that afternoon, Katie got a phone call for another job interview at our local public library. A job at the library doesn't require fancy clothing, but Katie could use more work tops and slacks.
While going to garage sales yesterday, I located a grey Ann Taylor suit in size 4 for only $5. At the same sale, I purchased two silk designer shirts for $3 each. Yipee! Professional clothing at rock-bottom prices. Katie tried on the suit when I got home. The jacket sleeves need to be shortened and two tucks need to be taken in the slacks. The shirts are really cute and best of all, Katie actually liked the clothing.
If she doesn't get the internship, Katie can still wear the suit for church and other dress-clothing occasions. She's also equipped for any job interviews in the future.

My sister is a larger size and older, but she was thrilled when someone gave her a bunch of "work" clothes. She even has an "interview outfit" now. It's tough finding nice clothes cheap no matter what your size. I'm tall so I was NEVER your daughter's size. My problem is finding pants long enough. I do sympathize as finding clothes to fit is a problem whichever end of sizes you are on. Whenever I'm done nursing/having more babies, my wardrobe is going to need some serious help. I hope I can find some good deals like you just found for your daughter.
I stopped having babies 4 years ago and still have not done a wardrobe replacement. And boy does it show :) My goal is to look for replacement items off season, so our budget doesn't take a huge hit.
