Back to the Daily Grind

We returned to schooling yesterday. There is so much to do right now that I would like to take a few weeks off, but I'm afraid that we would end up schooling all summer. Most of the kids worked hard yesterday on their studies. Two of the students wasted a lot of time. So today I'm offering a carrot. Amy offered to take everyone sledding this afternoon, if the school work gets done in the morning.

I need to add foreign languages and history into the curriculum this semester. Geography is another area that I would like to place greater emphasis. The winter Olympics will probably be used as a jumping off point for the geography studies. Several years ago during the Olympics, each child picked one country from each continent to support. The child studied their chosen country throughout the event. It was a great experience. We ate foods from the various countries, made flags, learned some foreign phrases, and made some traditional clothing. We will probably not make the clothing this time, but the other activities are possibilities.
