Madelyn and a couple of her friends are learning to sew. We meet every week or two for an 1-1/2 to 2 hours. The girls' first project is a simple apron. The class seems to be going okay. A few seams that needed to be ripped out have slowed us down a little, but we should finish the aprons at the next class. The student least likely to do any sewing after we finish our projects is Madelyn. While everyone was working on their projects, she mentioned how much she "hates" sewing. I must be a terrible teacher. NONE of my older daughters enjoy sewing. Paige and Allie both want to learn to sew, but I'm afraid to get them started on a project until their manual dexterity improves a little. They are my last shot at passing down my sewing gene.

My mom was a home ec. teacher and she could sew well. I got so frustrated working with her on sewing. I did my required projects for 4-H for a few years and didn't sew anything again until I was in college. When I was away from mom and could ask a friend questions, I enjoyed it. So don't give up hope that if you have taught them basic skills they may still pick it up later in life.
I think I started learning how to sew in about 3rd or 4th grade, so you don't have to wait too much longer for Paige and Allie!
