Ice Skating Field Trip

Our homeschool group took a field trip to a nearby skating rink on Wednesday.  My younger two girls haven't had much ice skating experience and were looking forward to the afternoon.  We had high temperatures and heavy rain that was supposed to turn to freezing rain and snow in the late afternoon.  I was so thankful that we reach our home before the driving became tricky.

I had read the directions and name of the location a few days before the trip and assumed that I knew where we were skating.  When we arrived at the skating complex, I couldn't find a building with the correct name.  A few other families had arrived, so we wandered around asking which building we were supposed to enter.  Eventually, we learned that the organization had recently acquired another building about 10 miles away. Oops!  We had enough time to make it to the correct place by the stated time, so none of the girls were upset.

Madelyn is a fairly good skater.  She can skate backwards and usually doesn't fall.  I did see one spectacular fall where her face hit the ice.  She shook it off, but will be sore tomorrow.

Allie began the day with a ton of falls and short steps around the rink.  By the end of the afternoon she was gliding and having fun.

After we had been there for about 30 minutes, Paige raced up to me shouting, "Chloe's here!.  The Chloe that we knew before we moved."  Allie and Paige spent the rest of the afternoon skating with Chloe.  Surprises can be so much fun!

Paige had a great time.  She was quite a bit more advanced than Allie and spent a lot of time helping out some of the younger, less experienced skaters.

Allie was ao exhausted from learning to skate that she fell asleep on the way home.

Paige, Allie and their unexpected friend!
