Homeschooling must be more mainstream than I thought. Yesterday, the kids were watching Family Feud. One of the questions was "What is the hardest subject for homeschool parents to teach?" The number one answer was Math. That makes sense, many people are math-phobic. The other answers were science, home economics, sex ed., history social studies, English, and foreign languages. Most of these answers make sense. Science tends to be a subject that people feel insecure about their knowledge. Foreign languages can be difficult if you don't speak another language. English causes some people grief. Sex education could be challenging for people due to embarrassment.
The one I found the most surprising was home economics. I took home ec. as a child. The class was pretty basic. For cooking, we made pizza using refrigerator biscuits for dough, pudding using a boxed mix. Our sewing projects were an apron made with straight seams and no pattern, and a poncho, and elastic waist slacks. This was certainly not rocket science.
At least no one answered, "Socialization."
